Fine Vintage White Worms

Over the years I have tried various methods to keep white worms. Ranging from keeping them in a cool spot on the basement floor to old refrigerators with the thermostats replaced or tinkered with to get the refrigerators to run at a warm enough temperature to propagate the worms (55-57 degrees). I finally settled on using wine coolers to keep them in as the temperature range for wine coolers is 40 to 60 degrees. The coolers I bought are large enough to hold three sweater boxes and two shoe boxes. When shopping for a cooler try to find one with flat shelves rather than one with shelves shaped to hold bottles. Keeping them in the coolers has cut down insect infestations (mites and little flies) to nil compared to keeping them on the basement floor.
I am using Magic Worm Bedding in some of the cultures and a mix of potting soil and peat moss in some others. Charley Grimes swears by the Magic Worm Bedding. Per Charley’s advice I’m feeding them white bread soaked in yeast water and they will eat half a slice of bread a day per culture. Charley’s cultures will eat a slice of bread a day but I’m a little unreliable in my feeding schedule. The End

White worms devouring a piece of bread!
