GVAC Membership
Individual HAP
Purpose:
To encourage the study and
cultivation of aquatic plants in the
aquarium hobby.
Definition of Aquatic
Plant:
An aquatic plant is one
which, in the wild or native state, is
normally found growing in bodies of
water. i.e...lakes or ponds, rivers or
streams, bogs or swamps.
Awards:
A decorative plaque with brass slips
denoting the various levels of
achievement.
Administration:
The program may be administered by an
individual or committee as decided by
the BOD, with the primary purpose being,
to encourage maximum participation in
the operation of this program.
Eligibility:
All paid members in good standing.

Total of 75 species
with at least 15
flowering
propagations and 5
sexual propagation.
Requirements:
A written report, dealing with some
aspect of aquatic horticulture and is
suitable for publication in the GVAC
Newsletter, plus a written report for
all sexual propagations is required for
each Attainment or
Special Achievement Award Level.
Example: 1 written report for every 10
vegetative propagations.
For all
vegetative propagations, at least one
plant of the species being turned in for
points must be donated or offered for
sale at a club auction. Note....a
donation is required for BOOK POINTS.
For all
flowering propagations, the plant must
be witnessed by a HAP approved witness.
Donation or sale of the plant is not
required for HAP points. Note....a
donation is required for BOOK POINTS.
For all
sexual propagations, the plant must be
witnessed twice by a HAP approved
witness; Once in bloom and once when the
propagations are recognizable as young
plants of the parent plant.

Definition of
Propagations:

Vegetative:
-
Floating plants - doubling of the original amount.
-
Bunch plants - doubling of the original amount determined by the root count of the growing stems.

Runner or Division - One healthy plant capable of living independently of the parent plant while the parent is still living.

Flowering: Must be
verified while in
full bloom and the
flower is attached
to the plant in the
aquarium or pond.

Sexual: at least one
plant reproduced via
seed from
participant's own
plant.
Additional Awards

Horticulturist of
the Year - a
member with the most
propagations in a
given year (Jan -
Dec)
-
HAP Rookie of the
Year- member
with the most
propagations in a
given year (Jan-Dec)
that is new to the
HAP program.
Book Points and HAP
One book point will be awarded for every
species propagated and donated
for sale at a club auction regardless of
method of propagation. Book points
can be combined with book points
achieved in the BAP and other programs.
Transferring HAP
Points from another club's program
-
All species are
transferable to the
GVAC programs as
they apply to our
point system.

The participant is
responsible for
obtaining their own
records from
previous club
program chairperson
with that person's
phone number or
e-mail address.

In order to receive
awards for
transferring points,
the correct number
of articles must be
turned in for
possible
publication.
These articles may
be ones previously
written for other
publications by the
participant.
-
Transferred points
do not apply towards
Horticulturist of
the Year or Rookie
of the Year.

Transferred points
do not apply towards
Book Points.
