Swap Meets

GVAC currently holds one swap meet per year in mid January, when typically there are very few other aquarium club related events occurring. This is an opportunity for hobbyists to sell their fish, plants, aquariums, or fish related items at prices they choose. Sellers rent a table from GVAC to display their items on. The buyers pay an entrance fee to enter the event and then make purchases directly from the sellers. The table and entrance fees go to pay for the space,  with any proceeds from the event going into GVAC’s general fund. It is nice if GVAC makes a bit to help pay club expenses, but this is really an event geared towards letting hobbyists meet up and buy and sell the fish they breed at set prices. At an auction prices can vary quite a bit between bags of similar fish, while at a swap a hobbyist can sell higher end fish, (such as discus), without fear of them selling for less than they are worth. The swap is also a great social event for hobbyists of all levels and is a great opportunity to meet new people. Typically our swaps last for four hours, and as a buyer you do not have to stay for the duration. No parking lot sales please. This takes away from the other hobbyists participating in the event.

GVAC also holds a yard sale of used aquariums and equipment in September. This is a BYOT, (Bring Your Own Table), event for sellers, and there are no entrance or selling fees. You must be a current GVAC member in good standing to sell at the event. Space is provided by Blue Fish Aquarium at no cost to the club, and is a great opportunity to buy and sell used aquariums and equipment at the beginning of the auction season. This is a time when hobbyists are beginning to spend more time indoors and are looking for new additions to their fish rooms so it works out for everyone. This event typically lasts for four hours and is also a very good social event for hobbyists.
